Correcting a record
If a record here is wrong
Maury publishes records about vessels other people own. Some of those records will be
wrong, and some will be right but out of date. Either way we want to hear about it, and
you do not have to prove you own the vessel to have a factual error looked at.
Write to corrections@thalorworks.com with the vessel page address, the line you believe is wrong, and what the correct information is. If you have the Coast Guard paperwork that shows it, send that too — it makes the correction faster.

What we will do
Show your correction alongside the record. The Coast Guard record stays visible and
your correction sits next to it, attributed and dated. Someone reading the page sees both.
Fix what is ours. If we have mis-loaded, mis-joined, or mis-displayed something, that is our error and we correct it outright.
Say when we do not know. Where the source is blank, this site shows a blank. We do not fill gaps with guesses, and we will not start doing so to resolve a dispute.

What we will not do
We cannot alter a Coast Guard record. Maury is a copy of what USCG published. If
the underlying federal record is wrong, it has to be corrected at the source — see
below — and the correction reaches Maury on a later pull.
We will not remove a record because it is unflattering. Everything here is a public federal record, published as recorded. We will remove or annotate something that is factually wrong. We will not remove something that is factually right.
We do not grade vessels, so there is no grade to appeal. Maury publishes counts of records and the dates on them. It publishes no score, rating, or opinion about any vessel's condition or seaworthiness, and it never has.

Where the authoritative record lives
The source of record is the US Coast Guard, not Maury. Vessel inspection and deficiency
data comes from the Coast Guard's Port State Information Exchange (PSIX), published
through CGMIX. Vessel documentation and ownership are held by the National Vessel
Documentation Center. Corrections made there are authoritative; corrections made here
are annotations.

A record being absent is not a finding
If a vessel shows few inspections, or none, that is a statement about what was written
down — not about the vessel. 56.1% of inspection
records in this archive carry no inspection type at all, three date ranges are missing
entirely because the federal export failed, and a vessel absent from the record for years
may simply not have been inspected.
