What Maury keeps about you

Counts of how the site is used, never what you read. An email address only if you give one.

Reading, without an account

No account and no cookie. Maury counts how its pages are used — how many pages are opened, which sections of a vessel page come on screen, how long a page stays open, in broad bands — as totals per day. Nothing records which pages you read, and no IP address is stored. The site's host, Cloudflare, also counts page views without cookies.

The count kept in your browser tab

Outside the European Economic Area and the United Kingdom, each page keeps a small count in your browser tab (session storage): how many pages and vessel pages you have opened in that tab, how many searches, report downloads and watches, and the name of the site that sent you there, not the page. It holds no identifier, is never sent as one, and is deleted when you close the tab. It lets Maury know how many vessels a visit looks at — one, or six — without knowing who looked.

In the EEA and the UK it is not used. European law asks for consent before anything is stored on a visitor's device for measurement, and Maury would rather not ask. Pages there are counted as page views only.

If you sign in

Your email address, your sign-in sessions, the vessels you watch, and any request you send. Nothing about what you read or download: a report download is counted with the vessel and the day, never with you. The sign-in email carries only a one-time link; it does not say which vessel you were reading. Mail is sent through Postmark. One click on your account page deletes all of it.

Ideas you send

The text you write, and your email address only if you ask for a reply. Read at Maury, never published, and deleted with your account.

What Maury never does

Sell or share anything about you. Show advertising. Run a third-party tracker. Payments, when there are any, go through Stripe; Maury never sees a card number. Questions: support@mauryrecords.com.
