Ships carrying toxic or flammable products or both shall be equipped with at least two instruments designed and calibrated for testing the specific vapors in question. The vessel’s portable gas meter was reading false amounts of H2S at the tip of the sampling point at the top of all the ship’s cargo tanks. Ship’s crew used Drager sampling tubes to additionally test for H2S which yielded readings of 0%. Camin Cargo Control team boarded vessel with USCG at the time of the COC exam and verified readings of 0% H2S at the top of each cargo tank. Portable gas meter needs to be serviced. 74SOLAS(14) VII/10.1 IBC 13.2.1 (40c)

Resolved 29 July 2019
Resolution: Service report attests to all the portable gas meters receiving shoreside calibration, and listing all tests (Oxygen, Methane, Hydrogen Sulfide, and Carbon Monoxide) as passing calibration tests.
