When the PPM was increased above 15 PPM, the recirculating solenoid failed to energize and the overboard solenoid remained energized allowing the effluent above 15 PPM to be discharged. For tankers of 20000 DWT and upwards, the protection for the cargo tanks shall be achieved by a fixed inert gas system in accordance with the requirements of the Fire Safety Systems Code. The IG System shall be capable of delivering inert gas with an oxygen content of not more than 5% by volume to the cargo tanks at any required rate of flow. The crew was unable to calibrate the Inert Gas Generator O2 analyzer to verify O2% being delivered. Prove proper operation of the IG System and analyzer calibration prior to discharging a cargo in the United States that requires to be inerted. 74 SOLAS (2014) II-2/4.5.5.1.1. and FSS Code Ch 15.2.2.1.2.5.
