Shutoff valves, installed so as to close against the fuel flow, must be fitted in the fuel supply lines...The shutoff valve at the tank must be manually operable from outside the compartment in which the valve is located, preferably from an accessible position on the weather deck. If the handle to the shutoff valve at the tank is located inside the machinery space, it must be located so that the operator does not have to reach more than 12 inches into the machinery space and the valve handle must be shielded from flames by the same material the hull is constructed of, or some noncombustible material. Generator fuel shutoff valve located at the fuel tank connection is not fitted with a remote shutoff. Prior to using the ship's generator, install remote pull-station outside the machinery space and test in the presence of a Coast Guard Marine Inspector.

A submersible electric bilge pump may be used as a power bilge pump only on a vessel of not more than 65 feet in length, carrying not more than 49 passengers provided that a positive shutoff valve is installed at the hull penetration. Forward bilge pump and forward bilge pump in the engine room do not have positive shut off valves at the skin of the vessel. Install prior to next operating season.
