Sampling points or detector heads shall be located in suitable positions in order that potentially dangerous leakages are readily detected when the hydrocarbon gas concentration reaches a pre-set level, which shall not be higher than 10% of the flammable limit. A continuous audible and visual alarm signal shall be automatically effected in pump-room, engine control room, cargo control room and navigation bridge to alert personnel to potential hazard. All pump-rooms shall be provided with bilge level monitoring devices together with appropriately located alarms.
PSCO observed failure to properly calibrate the fixed gas detection system, which resulted in a failure to trigger pre-set hydrocarbon alarm level when testing fixed gas detection.

Fire Fighting › Firemans Outfit › Protective Clothing

Fire fighters oufits shall comply with the fire safety code. Personal equipment shall consist of protective clothing of material to protect the skin from burns and scalding by steam. The vessels fire fighting outfits did not protect the firemans neck or sides of face.
