While attempting to carry out abandonship drill on starboard lifeboat, the lifeboat manual cable malfunctioned, causing damage to the control wire, pulley system and brake housing.-74 solas 14 con. Safety Mnagement Procedures manual CP05 3.3.1 states "test shall be carried out IAW manufacturers instructions. Crew has not implemented proper testing procedures.-74 SOLAS 14 con. IX 3.1 & ISM Part A/ 1.4.2

Resolution: Crew located onboard a testing kit for the heat detectors. The master will organize refreshment and training sessions for the crew and will issue standing orders indicating proper procedures to test smoke and heat detectors.

0715- Detection-The fixed fire detection system shall be periodically tested by means of equipment producing hot air at the appropriate temperature. During expanded exam, PSCO found crew could not verify operation of heat detectors using hot air at the appropriate temperature.-74 SOLAS 09 con II-2/3.2

Resolution: Crew located on board heat detectors testing kit as recommended by the manufacturers of the sensors. Testing device was fully charged and heat detectors were satisfactorilly tested.
