FOR TANKERS OF 20,000 TONNES DEADWEIGHT AND UPWARDS, THE PROTECTION OF THE CARGO TANKS SHALL BE ACHEIVED BY A FIXED INERT GAS SYSTEM IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE REQUIREMENTS OF THE FIRE SAFETY SYSTEMS CODE. SPECIAL CONSIDERATION SHALL BE GIVEN TO DESIGN AND LOCATION OF SCRUBBER AND BLOWERS WITH RELEVANT PIPING AND FITTINGS IN ORDER TO PREVENT FLUE GAS LEAKAGES. NO. 2 BLOWER SOLENOID WAS CORRODED, PRODUCING A MIST OF FLUE GAS SPRAYING INTO THE ENGINE ROOM. SOLAS 74 (2014) II-2/5.5.1.1 FSS CODE 15.2.3.1.6.1

The condition of the ship and its equipment shall be maintained to conform with the provisons of the present regulations to ensure that the ship in all respects will remain fit to proceed to sea without danger to the ship or persons on board. While transiting the lower mississippi river, the vessel reported a reduction in main propulsion due to a cylinder going down. Deficiency cleared via class report attesting to the satisfactory repair of cylinder no. 6.
