0736-Steering Gear- Every ship shall be provided with a main steering gear to the satisfaction of the Administration. PSCO observed that when the steering gear is operated on pump #1 actuating to port, that the hydraulic lock alarm sounds and auto starts the #2 steering gear pump. Failure has been identified as adjustment to hydraulic lock sensor position. SOLAS 74am II-1/29.
