The machinery...associated piping systems, and fittings shall be of a design and construction adequate for the service for which they are intended. A soft patch and welding was discovered on the main cooling seawater pump piping near the central cooler. The crew stated the repair was made due to a leak after 29JUN18 and has not made any report of the repair. 74 SOLAS (14) II-1/26.1

The machinery boilers, associated piping and fittings...shall be installed and protected as to reduce to a minimum any danger to persons on board, due regard being paid to hot surfaces and other hazards. The turbo casing leading from the generators to the exhaust is exposed without lagging, presenting a burn hazard. Additionally, a portion of grating near the boiler operating panel has been removed, presenting a falling hazard. 74 SOLAS (14) II-1/26.1

The arrangement of the bilge and ballast pumping system shall be such as to prevent the possibility of water passing from the water ballast spaces into the cargo and machinery spaces, or from one space to another. Resolution: One leaky pipe on top of the bilge transfer pump was removed and fitted with an acceptable steel pipe. The bilge system was then retested and found satisfactory.

Resolution: A new threaded pipe connection was fitted to replace the corroded portion of the pipe. The steam system was then tested satisfactorily to a pressure of 5 bar.
