The purpose of this regulation is to maintain and monitor the effectiveness of the fire safety measures the ship is provided with. For this purpose, the following functional requirements shall be met; fire protection systems and appliances shall be maintained ready for use. In steering gear room, PSCO observed fire hose not servicable. 74 SOLAS (20) II-2/14.1.1

Resolution: Crew replaced the not servicable hose with an extra new hose.

International shore connections... shall be kept aboard the ship together with a gasket of any material suitable for 1 N/mm2 services, together with four bolts of 16mm diameter and 50mm in length, four 16mm nuts and eight washers. PSCO observed four washers oboard. 74 SOLAS (20) II-2/10.2.1.7; FSS Code CH 2/2.1

Doors fitted in boundary bulkheads of machinery spaces of category A chall be reasonably gastight and self-closing. PSCOs foung the door leading into the machinery room to be warped, missing a lock, and would not self close. Cite SOLAS 2014 Ch. II-2 Reg 9.4.2.1 Action 40C

The condition of the ship and its equipment shall be maintained to conform with the provisions of the present regulations. A few inches of water was discovered in the emergency fire pump space. PSCOs ran the pump and the water did not appear to accumulate but was unable to drain due to spring loaded plug failure. Cite: SOLAS 2014 CH1 Reg 11 (a) Action: 40a
