Tankers of 20,000 DWT and upwards shall have their tanks(cargo) protected by means of an inert gas system IAW the requirements of the FSS Code. Although the crew have been testing its inert gas system at the required intervals, during the time of examination, the IGS system was not operational. Troubleshooting showed that there was a malfunction with the blower electric card. Vessel shall not conduct cargo operations until the system is operational, witnessed by attending PSCO, and the certificate issuing Recognized Organization agrees with repairs conducted by crew. 74 SOLAS (2004) II-2/4.5.5; FSS Code Chapter 15.

Resolution: IGS valve (to atmosphere) malfunctioned, causing the IGS blower to not operate. Valve was repaired. IGS operational.
