The machinery, boilers and other pressure vessels, associated piping systems and fittings shall be of a design and construction adequate for the service for which they are intended and shall be so installed. Pilot on board reported high cylinder temperature which caused a reduction in RPM to the main engine. After anchoring near Cove Point, MD, technicians were able to isolate the issue to turbocharger #2. Main engine turbocharger #2 has been put of service temporarily by manufacture technicians due to damage on the compressor wheel and airbox. Vessel is able to operate on reduced power per manufactures recommendation. Master is to advise pilots and local authorities about the main engine condition and request tug assistance if they deem necessary.
