The company and the ship shall comply with the requirements of the International Safety Management Code. The company should establish procedures to ensure that the ship is maintained in conformity with the provisions of the relevant rules and regulations. Instructions for inspecting lifesaving appliances lacked sufficient information for crew to carry out inspections with regard to requirements of SOLAS and the LSA Code; such as maintaining retro-reflective tape and marking the name of the ship on the rescue boat.

Resolution: Class rep provided an updated SMS which addressed the vague instructions to perform maintenance of ships LSA equipment. After reviewing the new procedure, internal audit is not required, deficiency corrected.
