In tankers, electrical equipment, cables and wiring shall not be installed in hazardous locations unless it conforms with standards not inferior to those accceptable to the organization. Insulation removed on lighting cables and associated bonding straps on numerous lighting fixtures within the cargo pump room.

Resolution: Received class report from Lloyds. Damaged portion of cables were cut off and reinstalled on lighting fixture. Class report uploaded to deficiency documents.

The following fire protection systems shall be kept in good order so as to ensure their required performance if a fire occurs: fire detection and fire alarm systems. PSCO observed 01 broken smoke detector held in place with tape, on the 02 deck of the cargo pump room. Crew replaced with new detector but were unable to satisfactorily test it.
