Gas detection equipment should so designed that it may readily be tested. Suitable equipment and span gas for this purpose should be carried on board. Gas detection equipment is unable to be calibrated. System is not able to accurately detect gas concentration levels on board. Vessel is not allowed to conduct cargo ops until rectified. SOLAS (14) VII/13.1. IGC 13.6.6.

Resolved 21 July 2017
Resolution: Vessel replaced two IR sensors with onboard spares. Witnessed satisfactory test of gas detection system.
