The machinery, associated piping systems, and fittings shall be of a design and consruction adequate for the service for which they are intended and shall be so installed and protected as to reduce to a minimum any danger to persons on board, due regards being paid to moving parts, hot surfaces, and other hazards. PSCO observed active salt water leaks on the number 1 and 2 SSDG, creating heavy corrosion and salt build up on the electrical junction box. Additionally, number 3 SSDG heat exchanger had heavy corrosion located on the plate covering the face of the heat exchanger, and was actively leaking on the electrical junction box.
