When transporting a solid bulk cargo liable to emit a toxic or flammable gas or cause oxygen depletion, an appropriate instrument for measuring the concentration of gas or oxygen shall be provided. Shipboard SMS procedure FMS010600-R44 Section 3 and the instruments operation manual require 6 month calibration. There was no record of an onboard calibration of the portable gas instrument in 2018 or 2019 and a proper calibration could not be demonstrated onboard during the exam. 74 SOLAS (14) VI/3.1 16ac
