The machinery, boilers and other pressure vessels, associated piping systems and fittings shall be of a design and construction adequate for the service for which they are intended. It was reported that the remote tachometer pick-up detector for the main engine is faulty and resulted in a total loss of propulsion. Demonstrate proper operation & readiness of the main propulsion system.

Resolution: Received a class report from CCS. Caused was due to a faulty tachometer pick-up detector for the M/E. Crew replaced the defective detector with a spare parts onboard. Tested M/E ahead & astern propulsion several times and was found in good working order.
