The fixed fire detection system shall be capable of rapidly detecting the on set of fire. PSCOs discovered the fixed sample smoke detection tubes were removed from the detection heads in the CO2 room. Crew stated that the sample tubes were removed prior to loading or unloading cargo in order to prevent damage to the detectors. Could not produce applicable procedures . Crew connected the sample tubes back to the detector heads. 74SOLAS(20)II-2/20.4.1 10c corrected on the spot.
