The following fire protection systems shall be kept in good order so as to ensure their required performance if a fire occurs: structural fire protection including fire resisting divisions, and protection of openings and penetration in these divisions. PSCO observed penetrations into several junction boxes in the engine room including the purifier room, main engine junction box #3, #3 salt water cooling pump, and motor control panel without proper caps or insulation to act as a barrier between the electrical connections and the engine room atmosphere. Vessel did not have fire resistant putty and/or insulation on board. 74 SOLAS (14) II-2/14.2.1.1.1 16c

A fire-fighter's outfit shall consist of...the following: Protective clothing of material to protect the skin from the heat radiating from the fire and from burns and scalding by steam . One fire-fighter's outfit was found to be torn and delaminated. 74 SOALS (14) II-2/10.10.1.1 and FSS Code 2.3.2.1.1
