THE FUNCTION OF FIXED FIRE DETECTION AND FIRE ALARM SYSTEMS SHALL BE PERIODICALLY TESTED TO THE SATISFACTION OF THE ADMINISTRATION BY MEANS OF EQUIPMENT PRODUCING HOT AIR AT THE APPROPRIATE TEMPERATURE, OR SMOKE OR AEROSOL PARTICLES HAVING HE APPROPRIATE RANGE OF DENSITY OR PARTICLE SIZE, OR OTHER PHENOMENA ASSOCIATED WITH INCIPIENT FIRES TO WHICH THE DETECTORS IS DESIGNED TO RESPOND.
WHILE CONDUCTING ENGINE ROOM EXAM, PSCO REQUESTED TO TEST HEAT AND FLAME DETECTORS, TO WHERE THE CREW STATED THEY WOULD USE A LIGHTER AS THE TESTING METHOD. SMS SAYS TO TEST IN ACCORDANCE WITH MAKER'S INSTRUTIONS. CREW WAS UNABLE TO PROVIDE MAKERS' INSTRUCTIONS FOR TESTING DETECTORS. PROVIDE CLASS REPORT ATTESTING TO PROPER TESTING OF SMOKE, HEAT, AND FLAME DETECTORS, IN ACCORDANCE WITH SMS AND MAKER'S INSTRUCTIONS WITHIN 7 DAYS OF EXAM DATE.
