A suitable metal marine type strainer must be fitted in the fuel supply line in the engine compartment. The starboard main diesel engine fuel filter was fitted with a plastic petcock.

A vessel of more than 26 feet in length, but not more than 65 feet, must carry a minimum of one life buoy of not less than 24 inches in diameter. Each ring life buoy with a floating waterlight must have a lanyard of at least 3 feet in length, but not more than 6 feet, securing the waterlight around the body of the ring life buoy. On a vessel required to carry only one ring buoy, each floating waterlight must be attached to the lanyard with a corrosion-resistant clip. The grab line of the vessel's 24 inch ring buoy was deteriorated, the floating waterlight lanyard was not secured to the body of the ring buoy, and the floating waterlight lanyard was not attached by a corrosion-resistant clip.

On a vessel of at least 26 feet in length, a visual and audible alarm must be provided at the operating station to indicate a high water level in a machinery space bilge, bilge well, shaft alley bilge, or other spaces subject to flooding from sea water piping within the space. Two bilge high level alarms, in separate watertight compartments, are installed to provide a visual and audible alarm for the Bilge Forward compartment.
