07123 - Fire detection systems shall be kept in good order so as to ensure their required performance if a fire occurs. PSCO observed an inoperable smoke detector in the vicinity of the fuel oil purifiers. There are only two smoke detectors in the vicinity of the fuel oil purifiers. Both detectors must be activated in order to actuate the fire control system. The fire control system is not currently providing protection for the space.

Resolution: PSC NOLA received a class report from NKK satisfying the requirement.
There are two drums and multiple garbage bags full of sludge and oily residues from maintenance on the #2 purifier being stored between the main engine lube oil settling tank and boiler fuel oil settling tank. The bags are leaking oil creating a fire hazard.
