Fire fighting systems and appliances shall be kept in good working irder and redily availiable for immediate use.PSCO observed that the safety pins from levers of the CO2 bottles were still in place preventing the automatic discharge of the CO2. PSCO also observed that the safety set screw in the discharge head prevents manual discharge.

After reviewing logs and documentatiion, the PSCO observed that the crew was not familiar with the operational readiness of the CO2 system.

Deficiency Code- 01303 Other The company should establish procedures to ensure that the ship is maintained in conformity with the provisions of the relevant rules and regulations and with any additional requirements which may be established by the company. Freshwater supply valve to water mist pump was found in the closed position. Ship crew could not provide established procedures on when this valve should be in the open (automatic) or closed (manual) positions. Ship form RC-007 11.3.7.d demonstrated crew inspected the water mist valve position on July 7th, 15th, and 22nd. UMS Checklist (Ship Form # CK-009) does not include checking that the water mist system is set to automatic. Deficiency Cite SOLAS 74(2014), IX-3/1 ISM Code 10.1
