Maintenance, testing and inspections of life-saving appliances shall be carried out based on the guidelines developed by the Organization and in a manner having due regard to ensuring reliability of such appliances. Rescue boat davit was found not greased as per manufacturers recommendations. Furthermore, all grease button fittings were found painted over. Crew removed paint and greased accordingly.

Instructions for on-board maintenance of life-saving appliances shall be easily understood, illustrated wherever possible, and as appropriate, shall include the following for each appliance: .4 Diagram of lubrication points with the recommended lubricants. Rescue Boat Davit grease fitting diagram was not posted nor made available for crew to perform maintenance. Provide diagram and attach to maintenance checklist for crew reference.
