0715- FIRE FIGHTING APPLIANCES (DETECTION)- A fixed fire detection and alarm system shall be of an approved type and comply with the code. Suitable instructions ford testing and maintenance shall be provided. Detector shall be periodically tested using equipment suitable for the types of fires to which the detector is designed to respond.
No testing procedures were found for ship's smoke, heat and flame detectors. Crew stated that cigarette lighters are used to test flames detectors. 74 SOLAS (2014 Cons.)II-2/7.2.2
