All ships of 500 gross tonnage and upwards shall have a gyro-compass, or other means, to determine and display their heading by shipboard non-magnetic means, being clearly readable by the helmsman at the main steering position. PSCO observed gyro-compass inaccurate by 5 degrees. Vessel may only transit during daylight with good visibility.

Resolution: Received, reviewed and accepted class report from [name withheld] stating the deficiency was rectified. Technician replaced defective gyrocompass sensitive element and verified accurate gyrocompass heading before departure.
