At each initial and subsequent inspection for certification of a vessel, the owner or managing operator shall be prepared to conduct tests and have the vessel ready for inspections of machinery, fuel, and piping systems, including the following: (h) Operational test of the means provided for pumping bilges. At the completion of the credit dry dock and internal structural exam, the bilge piping system was tested in the presence of the Marine Inspector and ABS surveyor. The aft engine room bilge suction intake was found to be inoperable. Make available for inspection by Marine Inspector or provide an ABS report.

An interconnected detection and alarm system must be installed so that the actuation of the alarm in one area results in both audible and visual alarms in all areas required to be protected by the interconnected detection and alarm system. Vessel has two separate fire detection systems. Fire alarms were not interconnected between crew/passenger accommodations (wireless) and engineering spaces (installed fire panel). Alarms in some areas were only audible, and did not have visual alarms.
