The function of fixed fire detection and fire alarm systems shall be periodically tested to the satisfaction of the Administration by means of equipment producing hot air at the appropriate temperature;/ During examination of the engine room fire detection, crew stated they use an open flame device for testing heat detectors, but they could not produce approved procedures.

Resolution: as per DNV Surveyor [name withheld] letter in documents;
"This is to confirm that the periodical testing of the flame detectors in the engine room of the subject vessel can be carried out by appropriate equipment, i.e. the relevant test lamp SEMSE-WARE."
