A vessel must comply with the applicable Federal Communications Commission requirements for any radio installation. Obtain Safety Radiotelephony Certificate. 46 CFR 184.502

Each portable fire extinguisher on a vessel must be of an approved type. Improper mounting of portable fire extinguisher. Provide approved fire extinguisher mounting bracket.

A vessel must carry an approval series 160.041 first aid kit. Vessel missing required contents.

An adult lifejacket must be provided for each person carried onboard. Vessel is certificated for 28 passengers and required to have 30 total lifejackets. Only 26 lifejackets were found in serviceable condition. Vessel is limited to 24 passengers until sufficient lifejackets are provided to the satisfaction of the marine inspector. 46 CFR 180.71

A vessel not required to have a power driven fire pump must have at least three 2.5 gallon buckets with an attached lanyard satisfactory to the cognizant OCMI. The words "FIRE BUCKET" must be stenciled in a contrasting color on each bucket. Vessel was found with only two fire buckets.

The owner shall make a vessel available for drydock examinations as required by this section. The following items must be addressed before receiving dry dock credit: a) cracked weld on starboard side engine mount b) possible breached baffle between pontoon chambers #8 and #9 on starboard side; numbered bow to stern.

Drug testing programs required by this part must be conducted in accordance with 49 CFR Part 40. The employer shall provide an employee assistance program for all crew members.

Upon written request on an employer, Commandant (CG-INV) will review the employer's chemical testing program to determine compliance with the provisions of this part. Vessel does not have a chemical testing program in the event of a serious marine incident or reasonable cause.

An adult lifejacket must be carried for each person on board a vessel. Provide a lifejacket for 30 persons.

A vessel on a lakes, bays and sounds route must carry three red hand distress signals and three orange hand smoke distress signals. Provide three orange hand smoke distress signals.

Each vessel must be equipped with at least two operable portable battery lights. Provide two portable battery lights.

Vessels operated solely within 20 nautical miles of land must be equipped with a VHF-DSC radiotelephone installation meeting the requirements of 46CFR §80.1101(c)(2), except that a VHF radiotelephone installation without DSC capability is permitted until one year after the Coast Guard notifies the Commission that shore-based sea area A1 coverage is established. Vessels in this category must not operate more than 20 nautical miles from land. Radio installation found without MMSI number programed into vessels radio. Update and enable Digital Selective Calling on vessels radio station to properly broadcast MMSI. 47 CFR 80.905(a)

Each item of lifesaving equipment carried on board a vessel but not required, must be approved by the Commandant. Extra ring life buoy being used has exceeded its serviceable life. Remove or replace with ring life buoy that meets performance and service standards.

Each life jacket must be approved in accordance with 46CFR subchapter Q and to be maintained in good and serviceable condition. Ten (10) life jackets found on board vessel where found to not meet service requirements or specifications. Replace with proper type life jackets to meet total passengers allowed on board.

Each floating water light installed on a vessel carrying only one ring buoy, must be attached to the lanyard with a corrosion resistant clip. Existing clip currently used is wasted and needs replacement with new. Replace existing equipment to meet corrosion resistant requirements.

Vessel must prove the weight of the sand ballast that has already been added to the second from the aft most pontoons.

Vessel must submit and have a plan approved by this office to add more ballast up to 1000lbs in each pontoon.

Vessel has added fixed ballast without correct OCMI authorization. Vessel cannot carry passengers until approval is given for added ballast and stability is determined to be accurate.
