PSCO observed that the means of escape leading from the main cahinery and the steering gear spaces to open deck were both locked from the inside with no means to unlock from open deck. Furthermore, the ships crew took 10 minutes to find the appropriate key. Verify with company and class appropriate access to a safe escape is provided on each side of the door that also meets the requirements of the ship security plan.

Resolution: Class report submitted approving the resolution and the approved SSP. Company advised the crew to use the (approved in her SSP) method of bolt, wing nut and padlock eye, in order to ensure that in an emergency, free access on open deck will be possible.
