0715-Detection-- Port State Control Officers observed one smoke detector fitted with a cover in workshop/lathe space. Vessel's records indicated reqular testing of detectors had been completed by vessel's crew. PSCO tested the detector and it was functioning properly. There was also another uncovered detector in the same space(workshop) that would raise that zone alarm--SOLAS 09 (am) Ch II-2/14

Resolution: Crew removed the cover of the smoke detector. Port State Control Officers witnessed the successful testing of the detector. There was also another uncovered detector in the same space(workshop) that would raise that zone alarm in the event of fire.
