Each emergency generating set arranged to be automatically started shall be equipped with starting devices approved by the Administration with a stored energy capability of at least three consecutive starts. A second source of energy shall be provided for an additional three starts within 30 min unless manual starting can be demonstrated to be effective. While testing the emergency generator the secondary battery set failed to start. Crew replaced secondary battery, PSCO tested both means of start after the replacement. Both starts satisfactory. 74 SOLAS (04) II-1/44.2

Vessel self-reported their fuel-oil pump on cylinder #3 of their main engine was causing a cut-out. In response the vessel has taken the cylinder out of service and have 7 out of 8 cylinders currently operating. 74 SOLAS (09) II-1/26.1

Fixed local application fire-extinguishing systems are to protect areas such as the following without the necessity of engine shutdown, personnel evacuation, or sealing of the spaces: Purifiers for heated oil. Vessel reported that their water-mist system had a leak of 50 liters per hour due to damaged solenoid valve. In response, vessel isolated the purifier room from the water mist system to secure the leak. 74 SOLAS (09) II-2/10.5.6.3.4
