Unless expressly provided otherwise, every ship shall be provided with a main steering gear and an auxiliary steering gear to the satisfaction of the administration. The main steering gear and the auxiliary steering gear shall be so arranged that the failure of one of them will not render the other inoperable. Vessel reported that one of their steering gear motors failed during pre-arrival checks. 74 SOLAS (20) II-1 / 29.1

Resolution: Received class report attesting to the proper operation of the No.2 steering gear motor.

Resolved 16 October 2022
Resolution: Vessel provided proof that the necessary part is unatainable until Spring 2023. Class granted permission to sail with a continuously manned engine room until November 2023.
