The gyrocompass repeater in the steering gear compartment displayed an error of 44 degrees.

Before the ship leaves port and at all times during the voyage, all life saving applicances shall be in working order and ready for immediate use. The rescue boat davit repeatedly tripped the breaker during operation and was incapable of slewing the rescue boat right or left.
