Fire-detection systems. Except as provided in paragraph (a)(8) of this section, each towing vessel must have a fire-detection system installed to detect engine room fires. The fire detection panel was found to be inoperable. Repair or install a fire detection system in accordance with 46 CFR 142.330. Per your request the vessel may operate with an additional trained crew member to assume a fire watch in the engine room at all times while the vessel is operating. The additional crew member shall be equipped with a radio in case of an emergency. An alternate crew shall be provided when the vessel is away from the dock for a period exceeding twelve (12) hours in any twenty-four (24) hour period. The vessel may operate under these terms until 01 JULY 2026 or until the fire detection panel is back restored to full operational status, whichever occurs first.
