Each vessel of 10,000 gross tons or more must have, in addition to the radar system under § 164.35(a), a second marine radar system that operates independently of the first. The vessel’s S-band radar system is non-operational due to antenna damage sustained during container loading operations at the pier. As a vessel of 75,579 gross tons, the vessel is required to have a second, independent radar system in addition to the one required under 33 CFR 164.35. The S-band radar system must be repaired and fully operational prior to the vessel getting underway. This repair must be verified by the vessel’s classification society.
