A sensor must be located above the expected bilge water level in the lowest part of a space containing a fuel tank when separate from the machinery space. Vapor detector is currently mounted on the top of the fuel tank. Remount detector in the lowest part of the space.

Each survival craft must be visually inspected and logged weekly to ensure its readiness for use. Weekly logs not completed. Log weekly inspections and provide evidence to CG MI.

A vessel not required to have a power driven fire pump must have at least three 2 1/2 gallon buckets, with an attached lanyard satisfactory to the cognizant OCMI... Fire buckets provided were 3 1/2 gallon buckets. Replace or modify existing fire buckets to hold a maximum of 2 1/2 gallons.

Electrical equipment on a vessel must be installed and maintained to: Protect passengers, crew, other persons, and the vessel from electrical hazards...Discovered wires that were not properly terminated in the stbd aft battery compartment. Properly dead-end wires.

The hailing port of the vessel must be marked on some clearly visible exterior part of the stern of the vessel. Hailing port is currently listed as Juneau, AK which does not match the hailing port on the issued COD. Amend COD or correctly label hailing port on the stern.

Each ring life buoy must be marked in clearly legible block capital letters with the vessel's name. Ring life buoy was missing required marking.

Each item of lifesaving equipment determined by the marine inspector to not be in serviceable condition must be repaired or replaced. One child-size lifejacket D-ring and hook not configured properly.

As appropriate for the intended voyage, a vessel must carry adequate and up-to-date: Charts of large enough scale to make safe navigation possible, U.S. Coast Pilot [name withheld] List and Current tables. Current tables were only provided electronically and CG Light List was missing. Update vessels Coast Pilot to 2023 version. 46 CFR 184.420

A pre-engineered fixed gas fire extinguishing system must: (1) Be approved by the Commandant;(2) Be capable of manual actuation from outside the space in addition to automatic actuation by a heat detector;(3) Automatically shut down all power ventilation systems and all engines that draw intake air from within the protected space; and(4) Be installed in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions.(b) A vessel on which a pre-engineered fixed gas fire extinguishing system is installed must have the following equipment at the operating station:(1) A light to indicate discharge;(2) An audible alarm that sounds upon discharge; and(3) A means to reset devices used to automatically shut down ventilation systems and engines as required by paragraph (a)(3) of this section.(c) Only one pre-engineered fixed gas fire extinguishing system is allowed to be installed in each space protected by such a system. Vessels pre-engineered fire system audible alarm is not functioning. Properly repair the alarm so the audible alarm can be heard at the operating station that sounds upon discharge. 46 CFR 181.420

Unless other means are provided to ensure that a potential waste receptacle fire would be limited to the receptacle, waste receptacles must be constructed of noncombustible materials with no openings in the sides or bottom. Combustible waste receptacle being used throughout the vessel. Remove all combustible waste receptacles from the vessel. 46 CFR 177.405(f)

Each ring life buoy with a floating waterlight must have a lanyard of at least 3-6'. Lanyard is approximately 2'. Ensure line is the proper length and secure around the body of the ring life buoy. Battery for the waterlight was also expired. Replace with an approved type.

A vessel must carry either a first-aid kit approved under 46 CFR 160.041 or a kit with equivalent contents. Ammonia inhalants expired. Only 4 tablets of aspirin provided. Ensure proper amount and no expired items.

Emergency instruction for man overboard, heavy weather and fire should be posted at the operating station. Instructions were not onboard at the time of inspection.

Each survival craft must be stowed so that when the vessel sinks the survival craft floats free and inflates automatically. Painter was not hooked up properly at the time of inspection. Corrected on the spot.
