The requirements in this paragraph are applicable to any vessel equipped with AIS: AIS must be maintained in effective operating condition. PSCO received notification from Vessel Traffic Service regarding a malfunction in the vessel's AIS transmission. Upon investigation by technicians, it was revealed that the transponder suffered significant weathering. The subsequent report indicates that while the AIS system is operational, there is a discrepancy in the position data between the transmitted and received signals.
Action required: 40 - Rectify deficiencies prior to next US port after sailing foreign

Resolution: Vessel submitted technician report and class report attesting to the AIS being fully operational.
