PSCO observed that davit was unable to lift rescue boat from cradle. After 30 mins crew found that limit switch was prematurely engaged due to a grease build-up, which the C/E stated was the cause of the davit's inoperable condition. Following removal of excess grease and adjustment of limit switch, davit was able to raise/lower rescue boat. On the spot correction. SOLAS 74a III/20.2.
