Before the ship leaves port and at all times during the voyage, all life-saving applainces shall be in working order and ready for immediate use. Upon boarding the vessel, the Captain informed the PSCO that the stern-launch lifeboat battery was not holding a charge and would not start the engine. PSCO confirmed lifeboat would not start. This discrepancy was discovered two days ago enroute to Boston. A purchase order was placed, and a new battery will be received 22Dec17 (today) to replace the bad battery. Ship's company and class were notified.
