Steering gear- The machinery, boilers, and other pressure vessels, associated piping and fittings shall be of a design and construction adequate for the service for which they are intended and shall be so installed and protected as to reduce to a minimum any danger to person on board. PSCO observed the steering gear, while operated in a local control on the #1 steering gear pump, drifting to the starboard approximately one degree every 15 seconds. 74 SOLAS (14) II-1/26.1. 17ac.

Resolution: Received, reviewed and accepted class report from NKK stating the deficiency was rectified. Chief Engineer carried out air release in hydraulic system iaw instruction manual, satisfactory steering test carried out.
