The design shall have regard to materials used in construction, the purpose for which the equipment is intended, the working conditions to which it will be subjected and the environmental conditions on board. PSCO observed the fresh water generator was inoperable and disassembled. Lifts which penetrate only a single deck shall be surrounded by A-0 class divisions with steel doors at both levels. Stairways and lift trunks which penetrate more than a single deck shall be surrounded by at least A-0 class divisions and be protected by self-closing doors at all levels. PSCO observed one of the self-closing doors on the main stairway and the self-closing door in the fire control room for the emergency escape trunk to not be self-closing.
