Every ship of 1OOGT and above shall carry a garbage management plan(GMP) which the crew shall follow. Crew did not follow GMP in that six 5 Gallon buckets with residue of Sodium Thiosulfate Pentahydrate UN#3077, environmentally hazardous substance, a Class 9 marine pollutant,found IVO dry food stores area being used to hold food scraps. Ship's GMP Section 8.9 requires chemical waste and environmental waste to be stored in the upper deck area. Further, disposal of such waste should only be made to shore reception facilities, not repurposed. MARPOL V/10.2, Rectify deficiencies prior to departure 17bc, Deficiency Rectified 10c.
