Machinery systems must be designed and maintained to provide for safe operation of the towing vessel and safety of persons onboard under normal and emergency conditions. It was reported that the stbd stuffing box cracked and the packing gland is no longer serviceable. Vessel to lock the shaft, shore up any leaks, and proceed on the 11 mile transit to the shipyard. A live watch shall be maintained until the vessel is on drydock. All pumps must be ready for immediate use. Master must notify the CG when the vessel departs it's current location and arrives at Mikes, Inc, Wood River, IL.
