Remote starting of pumps supplying the water spray system should be arranged in suitable locations outside the cargo area and readily accessible and operable in the vent of fire in the areas protected. The deck water spray pump upon remote actuation is found inoperable. Provide class report attesting to the satisfactory repair and oepration of the deck water spray system. Provide class report attesting to the root cause of the inoperable sprinkler pump. 74 SOLAS 14 VII/13.1 REF IGC 93/11.3.6

Resolution: SEC HOU-GAL PSC received a class report from BV satisfying the requirement and attesting to proper operation of the deck water spray.

Fire Fighting › Fixed Pressure Water-Spraying Fire Extinguishing System › Nozzles

On ships carrying flammable or toxic products, a water spray system for cooling, fire prevention and crew protection should cover boundaries of superstructures, cargo compressor rooms and exposed tank domes. PSCO identified 16 nozzels in way of #2 tank dome and FWD boundary of compressor room that were either blocked or providing insufficient spray.

Resolution: No 2 Tank dome spray nozzles were cleared immediately during testing when pointed out by [name withheld] has briefed all staff involved in testing of deck spray system to ensure that spray system is effectively flushed section by section.

Doors fitted in boundary bulkheads of machinery spaces of category A shall be reasonably gastight and self-closing. The door to fire equipment and deck store room #234 (FWD of compressor room) is listed on the fire control plan as an "A-class self-closing fire door". They will not close properly on its own.

Resolution: Ship staff has rectified the door closer by adjusting its closing settings and additionally carried out lubrication of door hinges to ensure efficient closing of door.

In zones on open decks over the cargo area electrical equipment shall be certified safe type equipment or approved for operation in a flammable atmosphere. PSCO found the lens cover for an Ex d approved light cracked. The light is located on main deck, STBD side at fwd of superstructure.

Resolution: Ships staff has replased the lens cover of Ex proof light with spare lens on board. Master has briefed concerned staff incharge of inspection to ensure inspection is carefully carried out and there is no reoccurence of lapse.

Test procedures for fixed gas detection equipment should be approved by the administration. PSCO found the hydrocarbon sensor in the gas detection cabinet to be different than the sensor listed in the cargo operations manual. The new sensor is of a differnt make and model.

Resolution: Office management has contacted service company and have received a positive confirmation that the newly fitted sensor is of approved type and fully compatible with Fixed Gas Detection system fitted on board.
