Monthly inspections required by NFPA 10 may be conducted by the owner, operator, person-in-charge, or a designated member of the crew. The owner or managing operator must provide satisfactory evidence of the required servicing to the marine inspector. MI observed no record of monthly inspections having been conducted. Required to provide evidence for future months as and established procedure for tracking monthly inspections.

MI observed 2 out of the 3 required fire buckets were not the correct size. 46 CFR 181.610 10c

Multiple life jackets were found to be no longer serviceable and were destroyed in the presence of the attending marine inspector. The vessel currently has 47 serviceable life jackets on board. Until this deficiency is rectified, the passenger count is reduced to 45 passengers plus two crew members. 46 CFR 180.71(a)

Each floating waterlight installed after March 11, 1997, on a vessel carrying only one ring buoy, must be attached to the lanyard with a corrosion-resistant clip. The clip must have a strength of at least 50 pounds, and allow the waterlight to be quickly disconnected from the ring life buoy. The clip attached to the waterlight lanyard was seized and no longer working to allow quick disconnect from the ring life buoy. 46 CFR 180.70(d)(3)
