WHEN TESTING THE FIXED GAS DETECTION SYSTEM WITH 70% LEL (3.5% BY VOLUME) TEST GAS, THE BY VOLUME READOUT READ 6% BY VOLUME.
Class surveyor conducted risk assessment and installed temporary portable LEL Gas detectors until permanent repairs are conducted.

IN MEETING THESE REQUIREMENTS, THE COMPANY SHOULD ENSURE THAT INSPECTIONS ARE HELD AT APPROPRIATE INTERVALS (10.2.1).
VESSEL'S PROCEDURES REQUIRE YEARLY CALIBRATION OF THE FIXED GAS DETECTION BY A SERVICE ENGINEER. THE LAST ANNUAL CALIBRATION WAS CONDUCTED ON APRIL 25, 2018.

Alarms should be activated for flammable products when the vapor concentration reaches 30% of the lower flammable limit in the cargo compressor room. After multiple attempts the fixed gas detection for the compressor room would not alarm properly while using 70% span gas.
