A system for continuous monitoring of hydrocarbon gases in the pump room shall be fitted on all tankers. When the hydrocarbon gas concentration reaches a pre-set level which shall not be heigher than 30 % LE, a continuous audible and visual alarm shall be automatically effected (i.e. activated) in the pump room, engine control room, cargo control room, and navigation bridge.
Gas monitoring system is currently malfunctioning and requires a new display/control panel. Without this pane the crew cannot calibrate or check the accuracy of the system. "Low gas" and "high gas" alarms do not activate, only "HC alarm" activates.
